100 Books for 100 Families: A Zonta Club of Cebu 2 centennial project

Zonta Club of Cebu 2 joined the Zonta world to celebrate Zonta International’s centennial anniversary by distributing 100 books, donated by club members to the families of 100 children enrolled in the Cabancalan Elementary School of Mandaue City. These children regularly participate in the club’s Alimbukad Family Literacy and Bonding project.

The Alimbukad: Basa Pamilya is a K-2 family literacy program. Its goals are to promote daily reading at home and to empower parents to boost their children’s learning potential by making books an integral part of their lives. By empowering the parents, stronger family bonds are developed. The family learns the value of literacy and that, if pursued, will contribute significantly to the eradication of poverty for generations. Families and the whole community will value time for reading as recreation and sharing of positive experiences.

It is envisioned that these 100 books will spark the designation of simple, reading corners in the homes of these 100 families.
