Zonta Club of Tauranga Area in New Zealand, District 16, celebrated Zonta’s Centennial Anniversary with a dinner and awards ceremony on Saturday, 9 November.
During the evening, 10 members of the service and advocacy committee each gave a summary of a decade from 1919 – 1928 and onward.
Committee chair Lois Hellings as Mary E. Jenkins started the presentations. Each member represented a different woman from her decade. Sometimes, like Mary and Amelia Earhart in the next decade it was a historical figure. Sometimes the member talked about their own experience in that decade, the 1969 – 1978 decade being most memorable for that!
Like any good birthday, significant events in Zonta’s history were celebrated as well as key achievements for women around the world and close to home.
And as the Woman of Achievement Award winner reminded everyone, we are here because of those women in Buffalo in 1919 and the women who’ve came after them. Now we take our place in the line of women, working together to honor and empower, through service and advocacy.
