Zonta Club of Roseburg Area celebrates centennial with child marriage awareness-raising display

In honor of Zonta’s 100th anniversary, the Zonta Club Roseburg Area, USA, District 8, is spreading awareness about child marriage with a display at its local library.

In the United States, at least 207,459 minors were married between 2000 and 2015. Eighty-seven percent of these minors are girls.

The club is in the state of Oregon, where children 17 years of age can marry with parental consent. According to Frontline, 3,284 children were married in Oregon between 200 and 2014. With 31 per 10,000 married, the state is 15th when ranked from most to least child marriages.
